Route 62 - Oudtshoorn & Robertson

SOUTH AFRICA | Sunday, 28 December 2008 | Views [693]

We're now on the final approach to Cape Town: Our Road Trip is coming to an end. At this point though we have the option of either staying on the Garden Route (coastal path), or driving inland on Route 62. We've seen nothing but coast line for the past couple of weeks so Route 62 seems like the more interesting choice.

First stop: Oudtshoorn (pronounced "Out-Sorn"). There's quite a lot to do here - They've got caves, ostrich farms, rivers for kayaking and trails for quadbiking. We go for the caves and the quadbiking and have a good time at each place. We both also have ostrich steaks for dinner and ostrich eggs for breakfast so we can say we tried the local food. If you've never tried ostrich meat before, you should at the next opportunity because it's melt-in-your-mouth goodness.

Second stop: Robertson (pronounced "Robert-Son"). Robertson is officially in wine country and that in itself is pretty exciting. No wine tasting for us yet though (not counting the wine we have with dinner) as we're only here for one afternoon. Not much to say about Robertson other than everything seems to shut on a Sunday.
