8 Cap Roc - Western most point
Another year and another birthday brings me to 59. Where has the time gone? My Plans for 2014 are now taking shape, as I did last year, I shall spend Jan, Feb and most of March in the warmer climbs of Southern Spain. I then intend to spend time visiting the Eastern States of Slovinia, Croatia, Hungary and Slovakia before taking a break in Vienna for a week to get a bit of musical culture. After which Prague will be my next major stop before heading westward to be home in time for the start of the International cricket in May.
My VW Transporter camper van is going strong. The modifications I've made are doing well and it really was worth uprating the alternator to deal with the electrical loads of fridge, freezer, heating and running during the day with headlights on.
I still plan to Visit all (25) now 26 mainland EU countries (I've been to Malta & Cyprus) plus the other friendly states in Europe, but I may not now take the van to Bulgaria, Romania and Greece. My last trip added just another 3 states to the 14 I had done, the 2014 trip will add another 4. This will leave Ireland to visit with the van. They say "Save the best til last"!. Again I will be staying at least 1 night in each state.
I have now visited all 4 extreme compass points of N,S,W and E of the EU. The North and East points are both in Finland (2012), the Southern point at Tarifa in Spain and the Western point atCap Roc in Portugal(2013). l I also visited the cardinal points of mainland UK in 2011. Of the highest and lowest,I travelled the highest railway in the EU:- the Jungfrau Mountain railyway and got to the highest point by public transport (cable car) on the Klein Matterhorn, both of which are in Switzerland (2013). I hope to get to the higest road in the EU this winter in Southern Spain.
Finally, Please leave a comment as you go through the Journal it's really nice to get feedback!
