Durango and beyond - rolling with Thunder
As planned we left Thursday morning the 19th of July and as it turned out it was 100km to Durango with Nivea riding comfortably on James' back ALL THE WAY!!
Now we think she might be a HE and in that case her name is Velcro. Even though she had a day off, she remembered well enough to hold on and even sleep during the ride. The rain held off until we reached Durango - that was nice.
With one break for lunch, the town was all down hill to our feet and the thunder started soon after we settled into a dump of a hotel which was noisy as hell and had the water turned off during the night. Velcro was smuggled in, in one of our panniers....the unfriendly staff would have "had a cow" over the matter, I am sure.
While the thunder rumbled outside - almost indistinctly from the noises in the hotel or even the rumble in my stomach and intestine at this point.....in short: I got sick  that night and wanted to die.....I know it sounds dramatic, but it's simply true!!!!
How lucky we are when we are well!!!
Durango is now colored by that experience, I am afraid to say. We changed hotels the next day - not only that, but it became pretty apparent, that our little kitty needed a suitable home. We left the bad hotel in a hurry and after they tried to jack up the price, we gave them what we thought was suitable and left in a hurry.
The plaza was bustling and a group of demonstrators started to group up near by. A couple of young girls were attracted by our white beautiful kitty and as it turned out, they were demonstrating agains animal cruelty (especially bull fighting...) and were interested to take Velcro and find him a real home.
As I was still feeling shitty (literarily) I broke into tears  - I mean, really, I could hardly contain myself...feeling sorry for myself, feeling lost and grieving the loss of the pure white amazing kitty.......couldn't he just be the kitten on the bike for ever?
Deal done, Abril took him on her shoulder to his new life...and us crying in the plaza.
The next day was spend in bed, curing out the bug I had caught and trying to eat and not get too weak.
No kitty, feeling bad....not a good time....basically a low point, so there...
