Dinner with the family

Dinner with the family

Don’t think I ever traveled through that many time zones. No jetlag – who would have thought? No jetlag at all……sleeping through the noises of the jungle, the heat, the humidity – the hot flashes……

Good to learn that Thailand seems to be cleaner than India and Nepal, the public toilets, the food the markets, the restaurants. Maybe this time I won’t get sick. OK, it’s spicy – to the point of tears at times. It goes in burning – it comes out burning. At least you get off the toilet faster and the hope for not getting as sick as in India increases. It’s only been – not even – a week, but I am confident!

The tea, the chai nom yen tea (milk ice tea)…………does it for me. I could take a bath in it if I could. It is caffeinated and sugary sweet, I will get dependent and don’t care – it’s just too good. The food in general is simply AMAZING. I am confident to say that this is my favorite place in the world for food (safe the places I haven’t been yet…….) Matz’s wife might just be spoiling us, but looking and eating at the markets I would say “no” it’s the culture – food is their pride….

Now Kipp and I will leave this safe heaven and travel by train to Ayuthaya tomorrow by night. Ready to go and excited to………

Now for the people that know we wanted to make this a bike trip: Plan “B” is in place at this point and the compromise is, that we will travel by train and rent bike – as needed- locally, since we were not able to find suitable bikes for us here in Chiang Mai (duh…..all too small….and also too expensive…..and now too late ……). Bummer is that we carried (and will carry) suitcases full of tools, bike parts and bike clothes around the world as an extra weight (good part is, we did not have to pay extra for it…), maybe it just helps to keep us grounded/down to earth in one way or another….
