La Casa Roja

Our accomodation here in Santiago is just spectacular - we are staying at La Casa Roja in Santiago (the red house). Its a 100 bed packpackers (by far the largest we´ve stayed in) run by 2 Aussies (we havent met them yet). The property is a restored palacial mansion, with all the trimmings from ye olden days. It was just the welcome we needed after arriving back in Santiago this morning at 7am after a rough overnighter from La Serena. When you book your long haul bus tickets here they ALWAYS say that we will receive snacks and refreshments on the trip, but all we saw last night was some orange cream biscuits and tasteless Nescafe at 5am in the morning - not quite what we expect....
After arriving this morning, we temporarilly forgot that nothing is open on Sundays here escept church & internet cafes. Ang & i were surprised at this as the Chileans go absolutely nuts for their feed and drink here, and so we figured there would be no shortage of places for a nice brekky. After walking the empty streets (which are beautiful, tree lined and clean) we ended up back at La Casa Roja where we were grateful to order brekky from the cafe onsite. Cold scrambled eggs, weak tea and toasted bread rolls have never tasted so good!
Anyway, we have 4 days here so im sure there will be more updates from the red house!
