Despite the high winds and the odd spot of rain I had a great drive up the coast. Areas of interest include
Shag Point (not a dogging area)...it might have something to do with the birds
Moeraki Boulders, West Coast. According to Maori legend, the boulders are gourds washed from the great voyaging canoe Araiteuru when it was wrecked upon landfall in New Zealand some 1000 years ago. How wrong there were! They're actually made from the Crystallisation of calcium and carbonates around charged particles in muddy undersea sediments gradually formed the boulders in a process taking as long as four million years!!! Just as I thought!!!
Fleur’s Place Restaurant. Enjoyed a fantastic meal here overlooking the sea. All the fish is freshly caught. The place (no pun intended) is very rustic and the food is excellent. There's water on three sides, fishing boats bobbing in the harbour.....a great setting. It has also been endorsed by Rick Stein...so it must be good. A nice romantic meal for one!!!
Drove on up to Timaru. Not much going on here just more of a stop over. Met a couple of Welsh Ggys who did the Bungee jump just before me in Queenstown.
