Tuesday 28th – Sunday 3rd July - Escalles, near Calais, then Paris
Tuesday was a big day…pack up the caravan in less than an hour
for an early start so we can catch the 2.30 ferry from Dover. Right…all set, and we’re off again…driving
now with the ’van along the M4, the M25 in the usual heavy traffic. Over on the ferry was easy, so after Calais the
narrow road to Escalles was managed. We
stayed 2 nights, exploring the coast, the Capes and the bunkers. The next challenge was negotiating our way
into a camping ground at Maisons Lafitte, in the Ile De France region and on
the outskirts of Paris, around narrow streets that in Australia would be made
one way. We had one night with Clan
Campbell and reciprocated with them coming to us (i.e. to the caravan) for
dinner. The following day we had another
immersion into French culture at their neighbour’s Saturday lunch - surrounded by fluent French speaking friends
and people like us who are challenged in French! We managed some good conversations
considering our non fluency still!
