Monday 6th – Wednesday 7th June - Luscherz, Switzerland.
The
rain poured down as we headed from Bagni di Lucca to Luscherz, past the marble-cutting
and manufacturing works at Carrara (Michelangelo only used their marble),
bypassing Genoa and the famous Italian coastline of Cinque Terre and Portofino…oh,
well, maybe next time ;) Then through Aosta and the St Bernard tunnel and into
Switzerland. A quick stop for the yummy
cheeses and tomatoes (our staple diet) and down the valley where they train the
St Bernard dogs, around the lakes and into Luscherz for un autre rendezvous
with our friends there, but this time no Caro or Albert… A great dinner of fresh vegies and melted
raclette cheese…a must when it’s cold and raining….
The
next morning was a bike ride into Erlach, then out to the island with its former
monastery of St Petersinsel situated on the edge of the lake. A quick ride back again, then into the car
and off to Neuchatel to the Etat Civil to research a few births, deaths and
marriages. Guess what…no luck! They only open in the mornings, so once again
the family research is on hold. Oh well,
we enjoyed looking at Neuchatel's architecture, the clear, blue lake and a trip into
the tourism office to find out about camping in the area…all for next time!
