Sunday 5th June - Lucca and Bagni di Lucca
After
a quick browse around the wonderful walled town of Lucca, famous for its Duomo
and the arts, we met cousin Roz and Pip
at the station, then it was back into Lucca for lunch. As it started to rain we headed to our next
destination, nearby Bagni di Lucca situated in the hills. Bagni di Lucca is known for
several things – they built the first Casino in Europe, they invented the game
roulette, and for 5 centuries had been famous for its thermal springs. We stayed the night with Roz and Pip’s
friends, sculptors who both create magnificent works right here in their studio
nestled next to the cascading river.
Then, for us, it was off to Switzerland the next day.
