24th April 2011 Easter Sunday
A visit to Ickworth House, Bury
St Edmunds, Suffolk
At Emma and Sam’s suggestion we all took off for a “jaunt”, as
they say, to a stately Georgian Italianate National Trust mansion in Suffolk.
This was built in the early 1800’s and boasts fabulous décor, artworks, gardens
and vineyards. The owners and descendants led a questionable lifestyle (from
debauchery through to jewellery theft and gun running and then the last who
died from aids at age 45 after blowing £21m on drugs and high living). The National Trust do an excellent job of
maintaining 300 sites so naturally we joined that day!
