The Royal Wedding
Well where does one start???
Armed with ponchos (again), camera and our faithful aussie hats
we took the train to St Pancras, then the tube to Victoria station, as
Westminster was already closed. Our
position on the footpath outside the coach house of Buckingham Palace was a
great idea. We were right there….watching the horses in the distance being
groomed, the flashy cars leave to collect the Windsors, and then, lo and behold,
after the cars with the flower girls and page boys scooted past, along came the
bridesmaid (sister Pippa) followed by Kate and dad themselves!
Well those of the family who saw this on our iPhone on skype
were very privileged people!!! The cars
had left but not the crowds…we found all pathways blocked from then on, there
were masses of people everywhere, and all routes to the palace were fenced off
so we had two choices left…to head for Hyde Park to watch it on the big screen
or to hit a pub and quench the thirst, of course we chose the latter! It
certainly was an amazing day to be amongst a million people of varied ethnic
and multicultural origins….to see the fervour and enthusiasm they ALL showed!
JnJ headed away from the masses towards Westminster Abbey (still
not open to the public), the beautiful St Paul’s Cathedral to hear the 5pm
Evensong, then on to Trafalgar Square where the after-party was still happening! There was many a non-sober person and we felt
very privileged to meet “the real Princess” – see the photo!
