Rushden - The purchase of a caravan (aka “Kevin”) – our
“starship galactica” for the forthcoming adventure through Europe.
Well, what can we say…it happened in one afternoon! After much tooth gnashing over motorhome Vs
car and caravan the latter won! Features
of necessity included a shower and loo, and a real bed – not one over a dining
table, nor up in a loft space – no, we wanted long term comfort! The trade off
is that it’s 7m long but we figure that if we are returning here over the next
few years then it needs to be “tres confortable”. Thanks to our skyrocketing Aussie dollar a
new van was affordable and this is set up for the freeze and the heat! “Kevin”, thanks to you Mils, is named after
Kevin McCloud of the BBC series “Grand Designs”, who also did a series called
“The Grand Tour” which was a coming-out for aristocratic post-pubescents
studying architecture to visit Italy, France and Greece. The chaps then returned to England and used
these ideas to design the great buildings of London (Inigo Jones – Covent
Garden etc, and Christopher Wren - the
domes of St Paul’s, etc). Our intention
is to see as much of this wonderful architecture as possible, hence our caravan
is called “Kevin”. We look forward to it
being ready, back in the UK, on June 20th.
