Punting on the Cam River, Cambridge

22nd April 2011

Heathrow then Rushden, UK

5.30am arrival at Heathrow on Good Friday…hardly a crowd and no one there except for Sam & Emma, our good old friends we’d met in Oz!!!!  What a welcome – thanks guys for collecting us soooo early!  Then a scoot up the empty M1 to their home in Northamptonshire, a late breakfast, a few stories to tell, a 2 hour snooze for all, then it was off for an afternoon in Cambridge.

Cambridge

What a beautiful (old) part of the world!  We were suddenly immersed in Royal Wedding fever, cobbled streets, riverways with punting boats (it was quite a culture shock after seeing mokoros the week before) and historic buildings.  Walking with Emma and Sam past the famous King’s College Chapel (c1536) we could see the BBC van outside recording one of the Easter services.  The building looks amazing but no entry for us today as all seats taken - we’ll save it for another time. Dinner was at a pub by the river, watching the punting….how surreal it all is after being in Africa.
