San Pedro

MEXICO | Tuesday, 11 December 2007 | Views [1005] | Comments [2]

This weekend we decided to do a day trip to San Pedro, a small silver mining town 20 mins from San Luis Potosi.  No buses go there but we'd been assured it was easy to go by taxi and it wouldn't cost excessive amounts.

Unfortunately the taxui driver had no idea where San Pedro was and we drove about in the desert for quite a while.  This would have been quite fun if there weren't five of us in the taxi cos we got to see places that we wouldn't normally see and again it was like "real" Mexico as apposed to a little bit of the U.S. which is how San Luis sometimes feels.  There were a lot of cactuses and we even saw cowboys with lasoos and stuff like that.  This is a part of the country where donkey and cart is still quite a normal method of transport.

Finally we got to tiny San Pedro, bought a load of silver jewellery, took a few photos of the plaza (my camera appears to be dying so i apologise for the poor quality of the photos - i think i'm gonna have to buy a new one after xmas)and as it seemed that we would never find another way of getting home we asked the taxi driver to wait while we looked round.  It was tiny so it didn't take long and our journey home was a lot quicker as he'd asked some locals about the direct route back!

I have a few more trips planned for December and January and hopefully better photos next time!
