Lyn’s last day with us so we headed to the Antwerp train station. The train station alone was worth the visit – a marvellous marble construction with a clear roof. We put Lyn’s bags in storage and headed into town. Started at the house lived in by Peter Paul Ruebens. They have turned it into a museum for the Flemish school of painting including some by the great man himself. It was well presented and the house as well as the paintings were good. Then went for a wander round St Catherine’s church which I think is the largest we have seen this trip. It had a magnificent cupola that was incredibly high up. It also had some paintings by Ruebens. Checked out the centre of town – many old and beautiful buildings and cobbled streets and market places. Very relaxing day, late lunch and then put Lyn on the train to Amsterdam before heading back to Ghent. Finished the day with the compulsory Belgian waffle. Our accommodation here was excellent. Only two rooms so it has just been us and the rooms are quaint and roomy. I will be sad to leave Ghent and this place.
