Decided public transport was the way to go and it was almost seamless. Made it safely to Budapest and found our accommodation – Wow! We have an apartment and I think it’s as big as our first home. Went for a wander around town and Budapest on the Danube is very pretty – not dissimilar to Prague which is not what I expected. Stopped at Aldi on the way home as cooking in with vegetables was order of the day as we have a kitchen– and we are quite veggie deprived. Half way through sorting dinner we ended up with a Ukrainian couple in our apartment. They thought we were reception and they had no English and us no Ukrainian. We ended up sorting them out (with reception who had long gone home who we had to call) by means of Google translate. We are so fortunate speaking English – it is the universal language over here, albeit a bit dodgy sometimes – but for those who have no English and can’t speak the native tongue I don’t know how they manage. Hungarian (and Czech for that matter) are particularly hard as they contain characters we don’t know how to pronounce so you can’t even make a guess at a word. Enjoyed our dinner with vegies and a local red. Another good day.
