Cycling around Aran islands

Cycling around Aran islands

Happy birthday Brydie! Today we took Brydie's recommendation and headed off by ferry to the Aran Islands. They were really interesting though I am not sure how people actually survived here. It is rock - no dirt. They had to make dirt by composting kelp! This area also has Irish as its language and all signs are in that, and the locals speak it. We rented bikes and rode all over the place. The highlight was an Iron Age fort. Not the major touristy one that is easy to get to. The one we liked was difficult to get to and we had it to ourselves. The  cliffs around most the island were incredibly sheer. Drove home via the pretty and rugged countryside of Connemurra. NB - see the other piccies
