So anyways, we are still in Fiji. Fiji is totally pretty awesome. In all honesty, the beaches are probably not as good as Western Australian beaches, but the water is really warm, and that is a nice thing. Also, the Fiji Fijians are cool guys, and accomplished liars. When they trick you with a lie, they laugh like its the funniest thing ever to happen. They spend loads of time laughing, its infectious.
We've just come back from about 10 days in the Yasewa Islands, doing lots of snorkeling and sunbaking and hanging out with other travellers and Fijians. A massive highlight was going to a church service in a Fijian village. The service was all in Fijian, but I'm pretty sure there was mention of that god fellow and also Jesus. They are excellent singers though, and they took every opportunity to sing. After the service, we went back to the village for lunch, and they made me eat seafood until I promised I couldn't eat any more. My ability to eat small bony fish proficiently gave me real Fiji village street cred.
We're now on the south coast of Viti Levu, and not surprisingly, its quite warm. During low tide there isn't much to do other than read, plan, practice Spanish, etc, but we should be heading out fishing this arvo.
The Fijian's are the most relaxed people around. They have a few national sports, like Rugby (union and 7s), volleyball and extreme driving. Basically, extreme driving is practiced by most Fijian motorists. It combines the South East Asian disrespect for road lanes, an aggressive attitude to overtaking and open roads, which allow extreme driving manouvers to be undertaken at much greater speeds than those normally seen in South East Asia.
Generally having a good time, although we're kind of keen to kick on to Vancouver. We've got too many things to do there when we arrive before the start of the ski season, and we've pretty much done what we wanted to do in Fiji.
