Hello everyone. I am in Nadi Town, Fiji in an internet cafe all by myself and I'm sweating because of the humidity. My flight to Nadi (10 hours) went well. I pretty much skipped December 30 because there is a 21 hour difference. So it's December 31. Fiji 2007! For some reason my airline, Air Pacific made me go through customs here even though I am in transit but it worked out for me because I now have a sweet Fiji stamp in my passport and I managed to escape the airport. I changed some money, stored my backpack, and hopped on an open-air bus and rode it 9 kilometers into town. Fiji reminds me of Uganda: humid, tropical, the ever-present smell of burning trash, and of course I am the only mzungu around. I found a small cafe and had breakfast (omelett, toast and milk tea--maybe this is Uganda). I made a few friends. One of them took me around the local hindu temple. The other one sold me a postcard. I also made a couple friends in LAX: two girls from canada who are also doing the NZ/Australia solo trip. Wow, it's hot here! From the short bus ride I took, I saw some small towns and the fiji mountains: they look like monstrous trees. I still have 5 hours before my flight leaves. I will probably get some ice cream and head back to the airport. I am very happy to be in the land of MAgnum bars again, the best ice cream on a stick in the world. Why don't we have Magnum bars in America? And there's a new Peppermint flavor. Well, hello from Fiji! Lisa, I've been thinking of you non-stop. You are here in spirit. I will be in New Zealand at 6 pm NZ time. Have a fabulous new year!
