Sweltering in San Antonio

So with the help of Min (the Aussie sharing my room) we figured out the bus into town and after a much needed coffee I went off to have a look at the Alamo - the big event in San Antonio.  Forked out $6 for the audio tour and it was well worth it, lasted about an hour and a half and was really interesting.  Basically the site has the old church where they made their last stand and then the long barracks where a load of them died but it's got pretty gardens too and loads and loads of information and museum type stuff all of which is free to see, just the audio tour costs.  And, quite impressively, they maintain it without any state money, just an organisation called the daughters of San Antinio or somethng like that.

Well the weather is super hot again so of course after the Alamo I decided to go walking miles!  Saw the San Fernando Cathedral, the original part of which was built in 1731 and the O'Henry museum and El Mercado and loads of other official buildings like city hall - nice architecture here. Oh and I walked part of the riverwalk and went to La Villita, a sort of craft village(mostly shut on a monday)

Dead on my feet by this time I went for sustenance and had some very greasy noodles and chinese chicken - STUPID your supposed to eat Mexican food in San Antonio - promise I'll do better tomorrow.

finished the day by finding the Central library for free interent but there was a que of 30 people so I'll try again tomorrow then headed back to the Bates Motel - I mean Bullis house.

Joy of joys, spooky guy has gone away so I got to meet Alma the owner sho is lovely and friendly and helpful, suddenly the place seemed nicer........
