So the train arrived in Edmonton (still 2 hours late) and I was able to go into the station and find Becky - Hoorah, she is here and very excited to be in Canada. Being the good friend I am I saved her a window seat so she could fully appreciate the magnificant scenery we are going through in to the Rockies.
This area really is magnificent, the huge swathes of forest (pine I presume) the mountains topped with what looks like pristine white snow, the huge green/blue lakes and the meadows in between are all breath taking. Twice on the train they said there were bears by the track but started out saying they were on the right then changed it to the left - not sure the driver knew which was which! but both time we were so busy running from one side to the other we missed them - quite a comedy moment.
Picked up our huge SUV hire car at the station and Becky galantly offered to drive. Very brave considering it's an automatic and we're on the wrong side of the road. One or two hairy moments when she was looking the wrong way as she pulled out but soon got used to it so we headed off to The Pocahontas log cabins, admittedly ours looked more like a garden shed but it was fine inside. Saw our first wildlife - a few Elk - and got ridiculously excited about it.
It was very nice (for me) to cook an evening meal and crack open a bottle of wine.
