Day 2 Frankfurt

GERMANY | Wednesday, 12 September 2007 | Views [1100] | Comments [6]

Amy: The fog is slowly clearing.  We manged to get a few extra hours sleep this morning to help make up for the hours missed on the way here. My thoughs on Germany so far....Beer and Bakeries.  Gotta love it.  Have to love a country that puts beer in the vendng machines.  We used today to recouperate and gather information on how best to proceed.  We visted the "largest mall in Europe" and got some fuel for the camp stove and bike specific maps that will help us find our way.  We hope to start moving tomorrow and get as far as Mainz.  Hopefully I will be able to fit all my stuff into my bike trailer.  Travel tip Number 1, don't go on a long distance bike trip without taking all your gear for a test drive.    I am not sure what happened but I seemed to have brought lots of stuff. We have uploaded some photos,  nothing too exciting yet but hopefully we will start getting more scenery type shots tomorrow.  We will also upload a couple of pictures of what all our gear looks like when we get a chance.

Hi guys,

Winnipeg update: super cold out today

Game update: We struggled on offence - work in progress. We did have some good things happen on defence, such as stopping them from getting a touchdown when they were on our third yard line.
They got a couple of touchdowns on interceptions.
It is harder when you don't have guidance on the sidelines.

Happy Biking !!

Glad you girls made it there okay and sounds like you are getting ready for some biking! Have fun and be careful. Beer and bakeries...yum! That is good fuel to keep you biking.

Take good care of yourselves.

I am guessing that you are off on your wonderful trip by now, probably cycling your way through beautiful scenery and hopefully indulging in all the amazing food and drink that Europe has to offer (ie. beer, wine and cheese, I’m not sure if they have anything else…). I had promised Patti that I would send along the information about some of the spots that we stayed in while we were in Europe, in case you were looking for good places to stay. So here they are:

1) In Venice, we stayed in cabins at a pretty nice campsite – Camping Fusina. The address is Via Moranzani 79, 30030 Fusina (VE) Italy, Tel: (39) 041 547 0055

2) In Rome, I didn’t like our accomodations but if you are stuck – Seven Hills Camping. Address is Via Cassia 1216, 00191 Roma Italy, Tel: (39) 06 3031 0826 or (39) 06 3036 2751

3) In Florence, Susie and I adored our cabins in this really great spot (way up a hill though). Beautiful views of Florence from poolside – Camping Panoramico Fiesole. Address is Via Peramonda 1, 50014 Fiesole, Floreoce Italy, Tel: (39) 055 599 069

4) In Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland (not sure if this is on the itinerary), beautiful spot nestled in the mountains – Camping SCCV Jungfrau. Address is CH-3822 Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland, Tel: (41) 33 856 2010

5) In Paris, we were just outside the city with easy access to Paris – one bus to the Metro station – Camping du Tremblay. Address is Boulevard des Allies, 94507 Champigny/Marne Cedex, France, Tel: (33) 1 43 97 43 97

Hope you are having a wonderful time!

Hey, Do you still remember us? Nice blog! When I was last in Europe, I met a really fine young woman (pre Sue, of course) so if you see her, tell her "hello".

You probably know by now that there was very minor fire at your house, and that it took no time at all to extinguish it. Just kidding!

I'm off to do some fishing this weekend and just got back on Monday from a very quick (3 day) trip (all business) to Honolulu. Nice place if you can afford it.

I will check in on you crazies often. Be safe and be aware of wonder.

Every five minutes around here, one of us says, "I wonder what Patti and Amy are doing?" (Or, "I wonder what Amy and Pat are doing", depending on who's askin'.)
The point is, we are sooooo there with you. Particularly while you are still in a country we can visualize. These are my people, girls. That beer in the vending machine thing was my idea. I am writing at a leisurely pace because I am off work for the week due to a back injury. We are having the best weather of our entire summer right now and i am surely enjoying watching it from my bed.
Enjoy those hearty breakfasts and for my sake, at least try the coffee. Mmmm.
Don't miss anything. (Be present)
Sending gobs of love and white light from hippie haven,
mon
