Amy: Things that surprised me about Dubai:
- I am still here ( another flight delay, I miss travelling by bike)
- That flights can be delayed in Dubai due to weather ( bad fog )
- It is humid here, I thought it was a desert (75%)
- It is big. Not the little desert oasis I thought it was
- There are a lot of Russians here
- It is relatively inexpensive thanks to a favourable exchange rate with CAD.
- Duty free items are cheaper coming from the US to Canada
Just sitting in the Dubai airport waiting to find out when/if we will fly to Johannesburg. Our flight was originally suppose to leave at 10:15 am, then 2:15 pm and now we aren’t sure but we have heard that it will go eventually. We have had a very busy few days here. We toured some of the local souks (markets), checked out some of the extravagant resorts, ate some great food, spent some time on the beach and spent the evening last night doing a “desert safari” The safari included a 4 wheel ride trip through the dunes, a camel ride, sand boarding, a henna tattoo, a lip smacking, mouth watering barbeque (according to our host) and a performance by a belly dancer. We didn’t have high expectations but we ended up enjoying the evening and we were glad we had done it. Our tour guide was quite the 4 wheel driver and the barbeque was quite good too. It has been quite hot and humid here so it should be a good transition to Africa. We have booked a 19 day Safari that will begin in Cape Town on Dec. 1st so we will have a couple of weeks to visit Patti’s cousin, tour Kruger National Park and find our way to Cape Town.
