The Elusive Razorbills of Bromley Cliffs

Gannet at Bromley Cliffs

Gannet at Bromley Cliffs

Connie woke me at the ungodly hour of 5:45, understandable if not excusable, since it was to be a 300-mile day.  We left the perfectly wonderful weather of Barley for the cold and windy cliffs of Bromley on the east coast of England.  Once again our quarry, the razorbill, soundly thwarted us.  We missed them by a couple of weeks in Newfoundland and by a few days this time.  At least we have a reason to return.

Bromley Cliffs RSPB site was having a birthday party today, despite the gale.  It has been nine weeks since the first gannet eggs hatched and the chicks should be ready to fly away.  Gannets are wonderful birds but we have seen and photographed them before.  Likewise for the kittywakes and the Atlantic puffins that share the cliffs.  But the razorbills had left the building!
