Update since Dijon up til the 30 May

Hi all.  A quick recap on where i`ve been the last couple of days.

28 May - trip to Lyon (on the train of course).  Nothing much to say about Lyon - is a nice place but i arrived in the evening and then had to find my way up to the hostel.  And when i say UP i mean it.  turns out hostel was up on the hill in the UNESCO heritage part of Lyon. Pretty as a picture but damn hard work with a 16 kg pack on your back.  Had a bit of a drama on arrival - hostel was full - but then like magic they found me a bed.  In a dorm with 8 other girls but we had an ensuite in the room.  Apart from a gaggle of school kids and a spot of rain it was a pretty good night.  Was nice actually getting to speak english.

29 May - Arles

Managed to procure myself a Virgin SIM card.  My greatest achievement yet.  So i now have a French cell number and can text (here they call it SMS).  If you want the number flick me an email - i don`t know how private this thing is.

Arrived in Arles in the evening.  There is a free shuttle bus that rides into town fromp the train station.  FREE is a big deal in Europe.  Anyway so this shuttle passes through some very very pretty narrow old school Europe streets and even goes past an old Roman theatre and amphitheatre.  It is a very very cool town centre - everything is photo worthy (i apologise again for the lack of pics - this pc doesn`t even have an accessible box).  I can`t comprehend how people drive here though - there is barely room for a bicycle let alone buses but somehow the locals make it work - and with speed too.  Being a pedestrian here is a risky business.  Nothing compared with the driving in Paris though - there they go all directions at once with much blaring of car horns.  thank god in NZ we have a thing called traffic lights and road rules

30 May Arles/The Camargue

Went on a wee field trip from Arles today to a town called Saint Marie de lar Mare.  It is on the Med ocean beside a spectacular estuary called The Camargue on which flamingos, wild white horses and black bulls roam.  Beautiful.  The township is really picturesque too - sort of Spanish looking really.  Today was the first real hot day i`ve had and i even got sunburnt.  Great for stolling along the Med.

Back at the hostel now catching up on the internet stuff.  Will try at the next place to get some of my photos up.  I thought i could do it back in Dijon but it didn`t work - i probably hit the wrong button somewhere cos all the Windows are in French and as such gibberish to me.

Thanks for all your supportive comments.  They mean a lot to me.  Hope you are not too cold back in NZ.

It sounds like you are having a really interesting time. I am looking forward to seeing some pictures. I don't envy you staying in backpackers. So brave :) Good luck finding a computer that does pics.

Sounds like you are finding your feet and getting around a bit. Am still waiting for some food updates in this travel diary though. Baguettes, pastries, cheese, wine....you must have eaten something exciting...snails or frog legs maybe??
