Nguyen Dynasty at Hue

13 Emperors called Hue home and the treasured buildings left behind for us to understand them are a Unesco World Heritage Site. Deservedly so. We caught a glimpse of these powerful leaders through their elaborate tombs built by and for them. Why the Communists would want to get rid of a system that allows a man 104 wives is baffling! Within these walled worlds we find ornate mosaics, finely crafted rooftop dragons, minutely detailed paintings, uncanny coloured mother-of-pearl inlaid furniture and perhaps most enlightening....a place of peace and tranquility. Tu Doc was quite a poet, apparently, and the tomb he had built encompasses many idyllic resting spots for the mind to dwell in its poetic essence. But...Khai Dinh beats him in ornateness with what must be hundreds of crushed antique vases positioned into finely detailed mosaics surrounding him in opulent grandeur.
