The cheapest boat ride from Nadi leaves from our hostel's beach. It's a small wooden boat, with two wooden benches on the inside and we sit facing the other passengers. Its hot, stuffy and I wouldn't recommend it if you get claustrophobic. No wonder they refer to this boat as The Coffin.
It's a pretty bumpy ride and although we all started off smiling and chatting, everyone quickly turns a bit green and we try to ward off the inevitable sickness by concentrating instead on the scenic views.
We are the first of The Coffin's cargo to get dropped off, and as the boat pulls up to Malolo island, we hear the sounds of a Fijian welcome song. We get a big shout of "Bula" and we're given refreshing welcome drinks as we step off the boat.
Happy to stand on solid ground, we take our drinks and head to our beautiful Bure (Fijian for cottage). It's right on the beach and has hammocks strung up everywhere. Inside the Bure there is a little sitting room area and behind is the bedroom. It all looks perfect - it seems we picked a great resort.
The resort (formally the set of an Aussie reality show of the same name) is small, with only 15 Bures and a dorm area, which houses the student tour groups that come through every other week. There's one here at the moment and the place is pretty lively with college kids running around. We get three meals a day as part of our full board and are pleased to find that the meals are a la carte and delicious.
Good food, nice beach, lots of hammocks...i think we're gonna like it here.
