Every summer, Chicago's Grant Park gives way to an event called The Taste of Chicago. It’s a week long extravaganza of
food from lots of different Chicago restaurants, that culminates on the 4th
of July holiday weekend. There's also music and other things, but make no mistake, we're going for the food.
And there's one thing in particular Alicia has on her mind - Frozen chocolate covered cheesecake on a stick. She says she's had it here before in previous years, but could such a thing really exist? Only in America...
Today is the first day
of The Taste and we meet Ramata at the entrance. It's not actually too crowded, but that's probably
cause it’s only a Monday - wait until the weekend. We’re able to walk around and check out
all the food stalls in detail. After tasting a few different foods, we go to
the food tent where Emeril Lagasse is making a special guest appearance. It’s so crowded, I
only manage to catch a glimpse of Emeril over and between the heads of his adoring fans. Oh well, it's time
for dessert anyway and there's only one thing I can have...and I find it...perfection.
Later, with chocolate and cheesecake smeared round our mouths, we walk on over to the stage area and listen to the
music of Charlie Wilson of the Gap Band and groove to the old
school hits.
