Cusco here we come!

PERU | Saturday, 28 March 2009 | Views [480]

Finally we arrive in Cusco after a 8 hour bus ride. This is the place to be if you're intending to visit Machu Picchu. There's loads to do here and we've got only a few days so we're gonna be busy.
On our first day there is a festival in the plaza de armas (the main square) and we eat breakfast in a restaurant that overlooks the parades going around the square. Brilliant. After that we check out a few hostels and find a nice one with hot water. I rejoice in the luxury of a hot shower!

We decide to plan out the next few days and we start by buying a Boleto Turistico (Tourist Ticket) which gets you into most of the main sights. Then we sign up to a Sacred Valley tour and a City tour. Between the two tours you get to see, Incan sights such as Sacsayhuaman (pronounced: Sexywoman), Qoricancha Temple, Pisac Ruins and Ollantaytambo. All are well worth a visit.

We end our first day with traditional Peruvian food: pizza.
