Cape Town - Colonial Penguins

SOUTH AFRICA | Sunday, 4 January 2009 | Views [3131]

Another trip out in the car and this time we go south along the peninsula towards a place called Simon's Town and the nearby Boulders Beach, where there's a Penguin Colony. On a nice day, you're allowed to go down to the beach with the penguins but unfortunately the weather lets us down and we're restricted to taking photos from a raised platform just above the beach. It's not a total loss at all though and the sanctuary is really interesting. Especially given the colony started with only two penguins in 1983, and numbered 2350 by 1997. Those be some frisky birds!
