After an over night in Clermont-Ferrand, home of Michelin Tires, we arrived in Bretagne - in a tiny little town called Locoal-Mendon (if you blink, you'll miss it.) But, it is very close to several more well known places like Carnac, Vannes, and Auray. Sure you say, "I know them all well." Since they are really interesting, I hope that I will be able to share their charm with you in upcoming blogs.
Our house, or part of it, was constructed in 1706. Obviously, it has been modernized. However, we are having a problem getting used to the rooms on the second level because all the corners were built at an angle so we can't stand straight accept in the middle of the bedroom and bathroom and hall. It's interesting!!!!! or I might use another word after banging my head.
The apartment in Italy was rented. Our "new" old home is an exchange. The owners will come to Sanibel in January. They're a very nice couple who were here to greet us with wine, a local cake made of pure butter, eggs and a little flour and some yummy butter cookies too. I got to practice my French and really immerse myself into the local culture, which is really what I love best about traveling and staying in one place for a while, rather than being in a different place every other night.
For example, there is a big festival on the 13th and 14th of July for Bastille Day. We have been invited to join Michel and Nicole (the home owners) at their home in Vannes, for the event. We will park our car at their place and we'll walk in to town. Because of the terrorist attack last year in Nice, no towns will allow cars anywhere near the public areas where the festivities are taking place!
