Deauville's beach is internationally famous. In September, the Deauville French-American Film Festival is held here. And the winners of the Festival not only receive an award but they get a piece of a fence named after them. There are the fancy changing cabins and the “fences” with the names of the past winners in front of each cabin. I enjoyed walking along the boardwalk and reading the names of former Festival winners. Even saw Kate Blanchett's name. I am assuming she won for a part in an American film?
The beach is a bit longer than a mile and it is extremely wide. One section has very colorful umbrellas that unfurl and form little changing “houses”.
Horses are also exercised on the beach, so in general there is something interesting going on every minute.
Today there were thousands of people on the beach and boardwalk or having a drink at one of the beach restaurants. With the water temperature at a chilly 54 degrees, no one was swimming!
