3rd Feb

Spent the whole day making my way to Wellington located on the North Island.  Checked into the Central YHA in Wellington.  One of the best hostels I've stayed at in a city. Great location, great facilities...even had a TV theatre room.

Sampled what Wellington has to offer with Dan, one of the guys from my dorm. A pretty good night in the town considering it was a weekday.

4th Feb

Went to move my car from the front of the hostel only to find that it wasn't there!  After a mild panic, thinking someone had stolen it, I was informed by the Hostel Reception that it had been towed away as I’d parked it in a bus stop.....it wasn't that clear to me!!!!

Met up with Phil Martin (old friend from school and college).  I don't think I have seen him since 1993/4 needless to say we spent alot of the time catching up about old colleagues from Worthing.  It was good to catch up and it seems that New Zealand life offers a good standard of living, especially when considering that what I paid for my flat, I could get a five bedroom house in Wellington.....

Went with Dan to Weta Digital just outside Wellington.  Basically Weta Digital is the visual effects company responsible for the making of the Lord of the Rings, plus other movies.  It was really very interesting, not that I'm a LOLR geek or anything like that.  Spent the rest of the day at the National Museum, which would appear that the main attraction is a collosal squid caught a few years ago........erm nuff said.

5th Feb             Wellington to  Taupo

On the road all day.  Checked into Blackberry backpackers in Taupo.  Really nice relaxed hostel with views of the mountains.

.........."Taupo is located on Lake Taupo, New Zealand's largest lake.  The area is a centre of volcanic and geothermal activity and hot springs".....and Mount Doom from Lord of the Rings is not far....I'm not a LOLR's nerd honestly.....NZ is one big film set!!!!!
