During our time in Borneo we decided that we had to try diving at one
of the top dive spots in the world, called Sipadan, just off the eastern
coast of Sabah.
The island of Sipadan is just on the Philippino/Indonesian/Malaysian
sea border and in 2000 hit the news when divers to the island were
abducted at gun point by rebels from the Philippines, but the diving made this a place not too be missed.
During our three dives we saw loads of white tipped sharks, green
turtles (very close up) as well as the amazing underwater sea wall, which has a sheer drop from the surface to over 600mts.
One of the highlights of the dive was swimming within a massive school
of jack fish, there were hundreds of them and we even managed to
swim within the school, all swimming in one direction, as a unit, until
this one jackfish, decided to swim against the school and the tide in
the wrong direction, I called that fish Adam (personal joke with Mr
Pickering).....
After diving we decided to head straight back to Kota Kibabalu (the
capital of Sabah) on a ten hour overnight bus ride, which was fairly
hellish, so bad infact that Dan insisted on us booking into a lovely hotel in KK, which was well over any budget, where she proceeded to sleep in bed for the whole of the day (as well as the following day if the truth be known).
We're just now in a small mini van heading to Kinabalu National Park,
where the mountain base is, no climbing planned though, as we're saving
that for Mount Fuji in Japan. Today we're just chilling out at the
park, maybe watching / laughing as others come down shattered from the
mountain!
From here we're heading back to Singapore tomorrow for the last time
(via Johor Bahru airport), it'll be an emotional time saying goodbye to
Singapore, I even expect tears from Dan...
We've just uploaded some more underwater pictures, including one really good one of a Turtle, taken from about a metre...
