Day 2 in Ho Chi minh started out slowly. We decided to do the Lonely Planet recommended Walking tour. So the first stop was the Ben Thanh markets. This was interesting as always with Tim being cornered in a clothing stall and the lady not letting him move. When he did she started yelling that he shouldn't hit her. Eventually we made it out. Then we grabbed our first pho breakfast (noodle soup) from a stand at the market for less than a dollar each. It was great and I also had a mango juice which was the best.
Next we took in the Fine art museum. It was getting a new show installed so it was pretty dull. The building itself however was excellent. Next we went to another market but one on the street. It was full on with motorcycles going through leaving very little room for those of us walking.
We headed into the main part of Saigon to go to the coffee shop I spent so much time at last time I was here. It was good to have a real coffee. The highlight of the day, although in ways depressing, was the war remunants museum. It blows me away the details of the war and its after affects.
We headed home after that the whole walking trip which ended up taking around 5 hours. A cold beer seemed like it was in order. We went to ice blue for some BGI's. We wondered around to find a place for dinner and found a hue style restaurant. The meal was unbelieveable.
We had a very big night this night with all of us choosing a bar to drink at. We ended at my choice, a bar called Eden. We had many, many drinks here. In vague detail of the night - Tim tried to pick up a swedish girl we met. I invited a vietnamese waitress to come and live with us in Australia for a while. Tim had a dance off with an English dude, Matt tried on the traditional hat the waitress was wearing. Lets just say we made an impact and made the locals laugh (even though it was at us.)
A great day all in all.
