Drove along the Bow valley park way to Johnston Canyon. A really pretty drive and a nice alternative to the trans Canada Highway no. 1. Now Johnston Canyon has been a tourist a ttraction since something link the 1890s when a coupl opened a cafe here. The walk is along paths and catwalks attached to the canyon walls. There were rather alot of people around so no chance of a nice peaceful walk but it was somewhat entertaining as there was still a lot of ice on the ground and quite a few people didn't have very good footwear to cope with it so on the downhill bits there were people slipping and sliding all over the place ha ha ha! I'm sure part of it comes down to a state of mind, if you think you are going to fall you are more likely to have problems than if you convince yoursself you are sure on your feet.
The trail gave somew wonderful views of the river and falls below and the final part of the upper falls was particularly dramatic as it was mostly still ice and the freshness of the air and gentle spray of water from the falls was well worth the hike over ice.
Now by this point Becky and I had become disappointed by the lack of bear sightings so we decided it was time to let "bear" put in an appearance...you'll see what I mean (very amusing to us).
In the afternoon we went to the Buffalo National Musuem in Banff. Wonderful objects and lots of information of the indians of the region including very upto date photographs of current tribe/clan members. Very easy to forget that these traditions do live on , the Europeans didn't manage to destroy them completely thank god.
