When you think of Ireland, the items in the photo come to mind. What are they?
These are piles of cut turf, called "rickles".<br>Cut up turf, left to dry in the elements, piled against buildings to protect from the elements. GOOD GUESS BUT NOT WHAT'S IN THE PHOTO. HAVEN'T COME ACROSS THE TERM "RICKLES" -- AM TRYING TO FIND A PHOTO OF WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE. THESE ARE SOMETHING MORE "IRISH". TRY AGAIN!! Bill

Cut pieces of peat, used for heating and as a peat fire for drying Barley Malt for Whisky making. YEAH Glen! -- you're absolutely right it's a pile of cut peat. They cut it (dig it out), leave it out to dry for 6-12 months, then store it in a peat shed, using it as needed in the fireplace. Owe you a glass of whiskey!
