Day 41: Amalfi & Ravello

Sunset from Nocelle.

The Amalfi coast is insanely beautiful. But, getting around with public transportation sucks. It would be ideal if you had a scooter or rented a car (if you're brave) or just took a boat everywhere. The bus rides can be enjoyable, but I feel like I spent the majority of my day on buses. The earliest bus I can take to Positano (unless I want to skip breakfast-no way!) is 10:50, which gets me there @ 11:20. Then there is another bus to Amalfi. That showed up around 11:40, so I got to Amalfi around 12:40. First thing I stopped for was gelato (its been a few days) then visited the moorish style cathedral. Walked around the town for a while, bought some meringues and candied lemon peel (yum!) & decided to take yet another bus to Ravello. Ravello was beautiful, up in the cliffs, overlooking the sea and surrounding mountains. I walked around the town a little, then visited the Villa Rufolo which had lovely gardens & views. I crammed Ravello into a short hour long visit, b/c I knew I had to catch the bus back to Amalfi, & another to Positano& the final to Nocelle.  Lucky for me the timing was perfect, so that right as I got off one bus, the next was there or on its way. Plus the rides were enjoyable-window seat on the way down from Ravello, aggressive driver to Amalfi going head to head with (& cursing at) everyone else on the road, and front window standing room only on the way up to Nocelle. The Nocelle bus was packed with almost all locals too. I planned on having dinner at one of the few (2?) restaurants up here, but neither was open, so I ended up getting some bread, cheese & tomatoes (all local) from the tiny grocery store down the road and eating that with some fruit off the property. Only one more day here, wish I'd booked longer.
