"No worries, mate. We can get a visa extension done today. But it will cost you." was the reply from the guy at the government office in Darwin. When I asked how much, he said with a smile, "$A290." Which is exactly the same as a round trip ticket to Bali from which we would automatically receive another 90-days. Free!
But we have been to Bali and have no desire to return.
Nicole, a Flight Centre travel agent had a suggestion; 5 days, 4 nights on the island nation of Vanuatu for $800 including airfare from Brisbane. We've never been there, hardly even heard of it. Beaches, diving, and over 200 species of birds. Book it, Dano!
We left the cold and wet of Hobart Wednesday morning just ahead of a major storm, arrived in hot and humid Darwin last night and found a shabby, overpriced hotel downtown. When we learned our camper van wouldn't be ready until late in the afternoon (The one promised us had a run-in with a 'roo.) we used the time to work on the next stage of our trip - and our immigration issues. Now we are covered in Australia until we leave in July and will have a chance to see our friends Ted and Shirley in Brisbane, too. It's funny how some things just work out.
