"Rain, rain, go away," was our mantra as we drove to Freycinet National Park but the weather report wasn't overly encouraging - showers and colder for the next few days. We camped in the park despite the lack of amenities; all we really need is an electrical hookup and hot showers. Freycinet is convenient to Hobart so we had neighbors this time, quiet ones though, no "hooning," Oz-speak for bad behavior. The guy in the next site even gave some fish he just caught, an unexpected dinner treat.
Hiking options in the park range from twenty-minutes to five days but with the iffy weather we stuck to those under 3-hours, hikes to pristine sugar-sand Friendly Beach where the surf crashed on seaside rocks and the scenic lookout over Wineglass Bay. Some of the rock formations reminded us of places we used to climb along the N. Platte River in Colorado, a decade ago when we were more agile. It was warm and comfortable when the sun was shining, miserable when it rained and cold as a well-digger's butt at night under a star-fill sky.
