The floor!

JAPAN | Saturday, 10 November 2007 | Views [563]

running out of time at the library (free net access is great), so i might not get everything i need into this story!

i will say it is GREAT! to get my capslock back, as the japanese dont need a capslock with them using funky symbols and not proper letters

the point to the title of this story is the floor in the castle in Kyoto.

the castle itself was amazing, gold paintings and screens which are all national treasures, meaning they are preserved and the light conditions are poor. No photos can be taken, as this can damage the walls as well, the problem was we went on the grey and overcast day, meaning we were squinting into rooms in order to see anything, due to the complete lack of light available, we were still impressed, which means the castle when its all visible must be stunning.

what was stunning was the floor, the person who had it built was exceptionally nervous about being killed, alot of security features were installed. the most interesting was the floor.

we are all used to squeaky floors and annoying loose planks of wood, this castle has a "nightingale floor" which squeaks with almost any pressure put on it, but its almost a musical sound, with the number of tourists stampeding through it, it still managed to sound nice and not the least bit irritating
