Saigon

VIETNAM | Thursday, 1 April 2010 | Views [270]

So we turned up to Saigon pretty late in the evening. The central area we stayed in was pretty western looking - very french influenced.

Stayed a couple of nights, the city itself is pretty much what you expect, but the Cu Chi tunnels outside were awesome. 200km of tunnels were dug up and used during the wars against the French and Americans. (No doubt Jose can expand on a few more details). We actually got to go down into the tunnels, though these had been increased for the western waistline.

I past up the oppertuinity to fire an AK 47 and the like for fear of shooting my own face off, but it is an optional extra. Also at the tunnels they had a distillation set up for making Rice Wine which was cool to see.

The war museum in the centre left little to the imagination. A lot of pictures of war - a lot of which I don't think American people would be too proud of.

Before getting settled we booked ourselves a bus to Delat 7hrs North West of Saigon, in the mountains
