Our flight leaves LA at 11pm, so we've got the whole day to take in the sights of the city. An early start and we're driving down Rodeo Drive, on the look out for celebs. None to be seen though, so we head up Sunset Blvd and over to the Kodak Theatre and the walk of fame.
There's a large crowd surrounding one of the stars on the walk of fame and there's only one person's star that is of any interest at the moment. We squeeze our way through the crowd in order to get a glimpse of Michael Jackson's name. His star is surrounded by flowers and people take turns having their picture taken next it.
With MJ on our brains, we decide to drive out to Encino, to see the memorial that fans created outside the Jackson family home. It's the last day the memorial will be up because MJ's funeral was yesterday and the neighbors have started to complain about having all the fans hanging around all day long. When we arrive, a lot of the memorial has already been removed. Still, there are plenty of signs, cards, and flowers left from dedicated fans. It's still hard to believe that the King of Pop is gone.
On our way back into the city we see smoke pouring over the hillside and helicopters are flying around putting out another Californian forest fire.
We spend the rest of the day around Santa Monica, checking out the beach, the pier and the shops. At 11pm we say Adios to LA and America. Next stop? Fiji!
