Ahh the beautiful island of Penang, such a wonderful place to visit as nne of us ventured out of Phnom Penh to attend the Father Heart A School on this Malaysian Island.
Penang is about a 3-hour flight from Cambodia – with a stopover in Kuala Lumpur and a Boost juice. Not too far away and not too bad on the tight purse strings, so it was a huge blessing to be able to travel with this group of dear people, to learn and be challenged at the school and experiences some of the things Penang has to offer.
Had a wonderful time at the Father Heart School – certainly is a conference with a difference – and I would recommend everyone to attend one and learn more about the perfect loving heart of our Heavenly Father. The school ran for 6 days in total and consumed a majority of our time on the island, but that was ok – completely worth it.
When we were outside the school we enjoyed amazing food, including: waffles, bagels and French toast with REAL bacon at a nearby newly opened café, mango sticky rice, amazing Indian food (at the Batu night markets I had the best vindaloo with plenty of spices and the tastiest garlic naan I have ever had), a Nandos chicken burger and peri peri salted chips which I consumed with extra hot sauce, Starbucks, bubble tea and lots more.
Even though we certainly did a lot of eating, listening and resting in Penang there were two nights we were released to explore.
The first one we set off to the Batu Night Markets which is a roadside market stretching over 1km along a narrow road. Here is where you can get your bargains and souvenirs – or in Cris and Tamara’s case two pairs of Hello Kitty glasses that were to become the novelty of the trip.
On our last evening we set out to enjoy George Town. Armed with a map, a bit of advice from some of the locals and some pent up energy we wondered around and took plenty of photos. I think I’ll let the images speak for themselves.
My impressions of Penang are very positive. Looking forward to the next time I go back. Anyone want to come with me?
