Journey to Australia

On the 19th  December…..my 365th day in living in Cambodia it was time to leave for my 6 week trip to Australia. Joining me on my travels is my dear friend Thida for a 3 week Brisbane and Melbourne visit.

We were so excited and nervous about our upcoming travels that we struggled in getting to sleep. This led to an interesting wake up call from our tuk tuk driver when he rang to say he was outside the house and we were still sleeping in our beds. Oops – guess I forgot to set the alarm.

Vatanak and Kanika were at the airport to see us off. It was so sweet of them to be there and they were excited for us and what was awaiting us. We also got a friendly visit from Eddie who was flying off to Singapore.

9 hours of waiting in KL was not fun. We would eat, find somewhere to sit, get bored, walk, sit, walk, sit….it wasn’t until Thida finally found a power outlet that she could plug in her laptop in and use the wifi that airport sitting was slightly less tiresome.

It was a LONG 8 hours flight to Australia. A squishy plane, a sick and tired friend and myself feeling rather claustrophobic didn’t make our flight through the night at all enjoyable.

Entering Australia both Thida and I got tagged with a PSP and had to get our passports rescanned and checked. Not too difficult. We took our time to get through quarantine – it is best when visiting Australia just to declare anything that could possibility be an issue.

So we were both very tired but so happy to arrive in Australia and spend some time with my family. At night we both slept about 12 hours, just to assist in recovering from our long journey.
