EPT anybody

On Monday the Office Skills Training Centre (where I teach pronunciation each morning) hosted the English Placement Test. This test is a 50 question multiple choice test that helps us place students at having an English level of Elementary, Pre Intermediate, Intermediate and so forth. It is made up of four sections....listening, appropriate response, grammar and reading.

Due to students being busy at different hours of the day we held the test 3 times, at 7am (man that was early), 12pm and 6pm. We had over 200 students (128 in the evening which was a bit crazy). Students don't sit at desks, they sit on blue plastic, back to back with a space on each side and write on the paper on their laps. There are huge problems with cheating so I guess this is the best way to do things.

After each test the teachers go out to eat - meaning soup soup and more soup. I didn't think I’d eat so much soup in Cambodia but it tastes good. Who says that in a hot climate you can't eat hot food.

Have been helping out with the marking. Each session had a different copy of the questions (same questions but in a different order) so different answer sheets to learn and try to quickly tick away before the results are released on Thursday. Students will then use these results to know what level they are at, if they can enter computer classes or need to do more work in our English classes. Hopefully this will bring some new students too.
