It’s nearing Khmer New Year and holidays so what better time is there for a short getaway down at the beach.
First destination was the coastal town of Kep. So in the early hours of the morning the three of us grabbed a tuk tuk and headed to a rather crowded bus station. Everyone seems to be travelling at the moment, to homelands, seeing family or on holidays so that leads to lots of people waiting with bags and snacks for buses to various destination. Over 3 hours of bumpy road awaited but we were all just excited to go somewhere new.
The bus finally reached the sleepy town of Kep and we quickly got off the bus….well when I say quickly I stumbled and fell into the arms of about 5 tuk tuk drivers that were crowding around ready to make some money off these new tourists. What an entrance.
We stayed the night in the gorgeous bungalows of Veranda. It is an amazing resort on a hillside with views that just take your breath away.
Kep is know for its crabs so that evening we headed down to the crab markets for a feast. $6 for a plate of crabs that fed three people, now that’s amazing.
Originally Thida and myself were going to head back to Phnom Penh the next day while Cheryl continued on with her holiday, but knowing I had no students to rush back to we decided to continue relaxation and travel on to Sihnoukville. Our bungalows were right near the beach, again more beautiful views. Can I say that just sitting on beach chairs, sipping mango shakes, enjoying the sounds of the waves is really enjoyable and helps you feel so restful.
These few photos only begin to capture it all. It is so good to return back to Phnom Penh well rested and ready to keep on going.
