a light in Cambodia

a day as a tourist

Yesterday I got to join some friends From City Life Hobson’s Bay (Melbourne Australia) in being a tourist in Phnom Penh for the day.

First point of call was the Royal Palace. We didn’t see the king but we did take a lot of photos. The architecture and colour of the buildings is so amazing. This was my second time to visit the Royal Palace (I went when I was here in Jan 2010) but it was nice to see things again and get a fresh perspective of the place.

Next we stopped by Wat Phnom. Basically it is a big temple on a hill. Not as much to see here but again the architectural design and the decorations were interesting. I got to see some monkeys as we explored.

After lunch we went to the Russian Markets (Phsar Toul Tom Poung). There is so much to see and buy in the markets and the others enjoyed spending up buying gifts for family and friends, oh and a few things for themselves. Then of course a visit to sisters is needed for a food rub and nail painting. I live here so I let the others enjoy these delights.

On Wednesdays we have a mid week prayer and healing service at church so we went along to that. I’ve got a lot to learn from the Cambodian Christians about faith and walking with God.

A larger group of us went out for dinner and then for dessert went to try baby duck eggs. This is a fertilised duck egg with a nearly developed embryo inside. What they do it boil the egg and you eat the delight contained within. I didn’t join the brave but played it safe and had a fruit smoothy.

Sounds like something they served up on Survivor one season - I seem to remember a lot of gagging over that one. Can't fathom people choosing to eat it....
