We spent three nights at Kaspars, a pretty run down place, right by the Pacific at Las Lajas
But the price was right and Kaspar, as it turns out, is not only from Germany, but from Berlin right out of "my neck of the woods" where I grew up: Kreuzberg! We had a good time talking, hanging out. He cooked us a very tasty Dorado fish meal, we got to do laundry and play with his dog "Renate" (of all names...it's my mother's and my middle name.....NOBODY calls their dog "Renate"....)
James got "Montezuma Revenge" the next day for one day, but, it wasn't caused by Kaspar's meal for all I know. I am pretty sure it was caused by the water he drank at the indigenous village a few days prior. We had consumed most of the same water and food all those days, but I did not feel good about that water, in spite of the locals telling us it was all right, so, I didn't drink it. We both slept a bunch and even me as a not sick person benefits from resting and sleeping after all that climbing we had done.
We left after James got better and we spent a day playing in the bath-tub-warm water with the boogie boards provided for free by Kaspar. Shit, that was a blast...very addicting to catch that wave just the right way to carry one to the beach. I know now how surfers feel - it must be quadrupled to feel that surf under ones feet and sit inside or on top of that wave.......and here we need no wetsuit. The only bad thing were the damn fire ants. They got me good a few times....."keeps my feet on the ground" in some ways...though I'd rather they were not touching the ground in this case.
