The long hot road ahead - riding through Baja

The long hot road ahead - riding through Baja

So, it was Tuesday the 19th with a good start and the desert kept continuing to show us it's beauty and variety with it's reassuring ranchitas  every so often, so, we can fill up our water bottles and catch a smile or even a laugh. At 9am we stopped at a dried out lake, had our lunch burritos and felt strong enough to push through to Punta Prieta and so we did....
Made it to our destination by 11:30am just at 110c with a really strong head wind for the last 10 miles. It felt like the kind of wind that hits your face when you open the stove door looking for the burned cookies you had forgotten to take out an hour ago..
The wind didn't subside for the rest of the day while we lay under a palapa in a RV place under construction. Ramiz the crazy, but nice care taker,  welcomed us and put out two buckets full of water (what luxury!) to cool off and shower. Crazy, because this place seemed so ghostly, but the older guy (say 70 y.o. or so) had lots of plans to make this a tourist destination....yeah, right - but good luck! Stranger things have happened.
Siesta here entailed laying on our Thermal Rests on the concrete padio and dreaming of cool fruits - especially watermelon. Sleeping was impossible - the wind was way too hot and strong.
Gave up on sleep and headed across the high way to the little restaurant and learned that it was run by Ramiz's friendly daughter and granddaughter - good day, even the dream (of watermelon) became reality - HAPPY. Ice cream for dinner and the order for a 5am breakfast was made.
